“The culture shock was immense. When I recovered, I started taking an interest in ecology. I went back to university and wrote a doctoral thesis on where environmental science and philosophy meet. I realized that if I wanted to breathe in my own culture, I had to start speaking up not only for others like me, but also for animals and plants, for the whole planet from which all life springs,” says US ecologist and nature writer David Abram, one of the twenty-one people interviewed in the first two seasons of Guides to Meaning. We call the thinkers chosen for this collection those who speak differently. “Everything Breathes Together” is a bow to those who breathe new life into nature – people who think and speak ecologically and show the way out of the mechanistic view of the world that we believe is the root cause of the growing global crisis.
