Until recently, it was strictly forbidden to take a windsurf board straight from Estonia to Finland. Yet with the new winds blowing through the country’s system of government, many people’s dream came true. The first to cross the Gulf of Finland on a windsurf board was the legendary extreme sportsman Paap Kõlar. As far as is known, it took him 11 hours and a bit.
On Friday, September 13, two women and one man accompanying them set out from Viimsi to repeat that journey. At first the weather seemed reasonable. But for our Fitgirl 2002 and Estonian windsurfing champion Helja Aas, at some point the way was blocked. It was Friday the 13th, after all.
Her companion Kristiine Mikk, however, was above superstition: as TV3 also confirmed, she reached the archipelago of our northern neighbors after just five and a half hours at sea. Hats off to her!
Knowing Helja, let’s call out to her: Do it again!
