Meet the athlete: bodybuilder Lukas Osladil

Czech bodybuilder Lukas Osladil is one of the most influential European names of his generation. Standing 173 cm tall and competing at 90 kg, he was crowned IFBB European champion in 2005 and placed 2nd in the up to 90 kg class at the 2006 World Championships in Ostrava. In this article, we take a closer look at Osladil, how he trains and what drives him to step on stage.

Who is Lukas Osladil?

Osladil was born on 4 June 1980 in Zábřeh and now lives in Prague. His home gym is Kentoya-fitness in Prague. He steps on stage at a competition body weight of 90 kg, while his off-season body weight is around 101 kg. His measurements speak for themselves: biceps 46–48.5 cm, chest 132–136 cm, waist 76–82 cm and thighs 69–71 cm.

Lukas began lifting weights at just 10 years old, so he can barely remember life without bodybuilding. “There haven’t been any major changes,” he says of bodybuilding’s impact on his life. He comes from a less well-off family and considers this a weakness, but he takes pride in his perseverance, reliability, determination and tolerance.

Lukas Osladil’s competition achievements

The highlights of his competitive career came in the mid-2000s:

  • 2004 — Czech bodybuilding champion in the 80 kg class
  • 2005 — Czech overall champion
  • 2005 — IFBB European champion
  • 2006 — 2nd place in the up to 90 kg class at the World Championships in Ostrava

His personal bests in the gym are equally impressive. At 18, Lukas bench-pressed 150 kg for eight reps. At 20, he performed six reps of dumbbell flyes with 50 kg dumbbells. He considers his thighs and glutes his strongest body parts, with his shoulders and chest slightly weaker.

Training, motivation and bodybuilding philosophy

Lukas believes mindset and self-belief are the most important factors in becoming a good athlete. His main motivation is simple: a hunger to win. His idol is Arnold Schwarzenegger, whom he admires both as a bodybuilder and as a person.

Lukas feels there is plenty of room for improvement in bodybuilding: athletes should earn more money at competitions, countries should give their representatives more support, and bodybuilding should get more television coverage. His biggest disappointment is the pre-contest diet — the hardest part of contest preparation.

Beyond bodybuilding, Lukas considers learning English one of his greatest achievements. He began teaching himself while serving in the military in 2000–2001 and attended a language school for a year in 2003. “But my English still isn’t 100% good,” he admits candidly. His message to readers is brief but clear: “I’m not finished yet…”

Lukas Osladil’s favorites and personal life

Lukas’s hobbies include music, films, travel, seeking out new experiences and dreaming. His greatest fears are terrorism, war and the dentist. His favorite seasons are spring and summer, and his favorite day is Friday.

His musical tastes are equally varied, ranging from pop and techno to classical music; among singers, he likes Madonna and Michael Jackson. His favorite animals include dogs, dolphins and rhinos.

He isn’t a picky eater: his favorites include ice cream, salmon, beef, pork, soups, cakes, chocolate and fries — just about everything, really. His preferred drinks are pineapple juice, Coke and cocktails. Among athletes, he admires the performances of Flex Wheeler, Shawn Ray and Stefan Orosz.
