Marek Kalmus is the fitness world champion!!!

Marek Kalmus became fitness world champion in Germany as Estonia won three medals. Read the reaction from the champion and fellow athletes.

Marek Kalmus fitnessi maailmameister!!!

Good news from Germany: Estonia’s fitness athletes brought home three medals. Marek Kalmus and the Russian Tamara Jarubinskaja, little known to us, were crowned world champions, and Argo Tõruke won junior silver.

World champion Kalmus was on the phone.

What do you say?

A beautiful title. It came against 27 men. Extreme Body is a new weight category, only added to the program this year. The competition itself started at nine on Saturday morning and ended at half past five on Sunday, also in the morning. What complicated things was the number of participants: 300.

My toughest rivals were from Germany and the Netherlands, as they have been before. I think I won convincingly rather than by a fluke. Compared with Moscow at the spring European Championships, where I finished second behind a Lithuanian, the judging was considered more objective. There were no mix-ups.

Jarubinskaja did well; unfortunately I know little about her. Perhaps SLÕhtuleht, which wrote about her at greater length, has fixed that gap. Argo Tõruke from Võru took the silver medal in the junior Atleticus. There were 17 participants.

What did father Jüri say?

Offered congratulations.

Opinions.

AIN PAAVO, European bodybuilding champion since 1990:
I can’t imagine what the sport entails. Well, it’s nice, something emotional anyway. Congratulations to Marek! Marek was already among the serious competitors back when I was still pumping up years ago. As for that doping uproar, well… none of us is an angel.

TARMO MITT, multiple-time Strongman of Estonia:
Marek is strong. I can’t say anything bad, and I don’t want to. The win came in the toughest category, with plenty of men competing. Blew everyone away. Came in in superb shape; Kalmus’s goal was precisely to reach peak performance there. I noticed that the strength and mass were very impressive…

Little by little, I’m training myself now too. After a partial knee tendon tear this summer, the doctors allowed me back on the track. Until then, I amused myself by organizing strength tests for others.

OTT KIIVIKAS, four-time Estonian overall bodybuilding champion, longtime rival of Kalmus:
Congratulations! Marek’s success only adds weight to my own victories. In recent years I’ve managed to tip the scales in my favor when competing against Marek.

We congratulate all three who came back from Germany and wish you a happy upcoming holiday season! After all, it was a lovely Christmas present for our whole bodybuilding and fitness family.
