Marek Morozov: an Estonian bodybuilder’s story
Marek Morozov is a name from an earlier era of Estonian bodybuilding, when building a physique had more to do with willpower than social media. This story takes a more personal look at his old questionnaire: who he was, how he trained and what he thought about bodybuilding.
Marek Morozov and his background
Full name: Estonian bodybuilder. On the Amazon.ee portal, he went by the nickname M.M. He was born on 1 April 1973 in Tallinn and lived in Viimsi when he completed the questionnaire. He trained at Viimsi Terviseklubi SPA, where he also worked as a gym trainer. His other role was as a board member of a real estate company.
He was living with his partner and had a five-year-old son. Height: 175. His most recent competition weight was 79, and he hoped to be heavier by autumn. Off-season weight: 100kg. He listed his measurements as biceps in cm: 47, leg in cm: 70 and calf in cm: 47. As for his chest and waist, he said plainly that he had never measured them or did not know.
His achievements were listed as Estonian Championships 2002, 2003, -80 kg, 1st place, with an honest addition: Estonian Championships 2002, disqualified. His contact email was mar.mor@mail.ee and his website was amazon.ee.
Marek Morozov in bodybuilding
Morozov’s answers reveal a straightforward person. His greatest fear was injuring himself. His greatest virtue: discipline. His greatest flaw: stubbornness, or, in his own words, making the same mistake several times. He valued willpower, discipline and consistency in others. Promises and ignorance got on his nerves.
His role models tended to be old-school greats such as Shawn Ray and Lee Labrada. That says a lot. He was drawn to more than just mass: aesthetics and control mattered too. Yet his biggest disappointment in bodybuilding was very human: so little muscle growth for so much effort.
What kept him going? By his own account, his main source of motivation was a rather unimpressive reflection in the mirror. That sounds harsh, but many gym-goers will recognize the feeling. Not every workout starts with a burst of inspiration. Sometimes you simply look in the mirror and realize there is still work to do.
What can Marek Morozov teach you about training?
His most practical point was simple: success takes willpower, consistency and discipline. To reach the very top, he added talent and financial resources to the list. It is hardly a catchy slogan, but it is honest. Bodybuilding demands time, recovery, food, coaching knowledge and often plenty of experimentation.
He considered his triceps and shoulders the strongest parts of his physique, describing them as passable when he was in competition shape. He named his abdomen as his weakest area. His goal was to keep his feet on the ground and simply carry on for at least another 10 years, provided injuries did not get in the way.
He discussed his personal records with dark humor: immediately after a competition, he had eaten so much that he gained 10 kilos in two days, complete with stomach ruptures. He immediately added that he did not recommend trying to break his record. The simple truth is that a post-competition eating binge may sound funny, but it puts your body through a very tough experience.
Asked why he chose bodybuilding, he said an individual sport suited him. He could not stand people shouting with stopwatches and whistles. There is an important point behind that: athletes do not all need the same environment. Some want a team; others want to work quietly with a barbell and a mirror.
Personality, favorites and a sense of the times
Morozov’s answers capture much of the spirit of that era. His favorite season was summer, and winter too, if there was snow. He drank coffee in the morning and water the rest of the time. The best time of day was 8:30 in the morning, because that was when he could eat plenty. His musical favorites included Billy Idol, Metallica and Sigue Sigue Sputnik. As for films, he liked almost anything about the mafia.
He named Robert deNiro as his favorite actor, Jennifer Rush as his favorite singer and Aston Martin as his favorite car brand for its design. He read specialist magazines such as Musclemag, Flex and M&F. His answer to the food question was a half-joking “boiled hedgehog with an apple.” Answers like these bring an old questionnaire to life, because a person is more than a competition weight and a pair of biceps.
Of Marek Kalmus, he said that unfortunately he did not know him particularly well, but he seemed grounded, immensely determined and simply unwilling to give up. With Ott Kiivikas, he wondered how the man managed to keep his mental and physical sides in balance. These observations show respect for hard work and mental strength.

Marek and Ott: you can tell straight away they are old friends 🙂
