Arida Muru: A bikini fitness journey

Arida Muru talks about her bikini fitness journey, training, nutrition and what helps her stay in shape.

Arida Muru is an Estonian bikini fitness competitor whose journey began with rhythmic gymnastics as a child. Here is her story in straightforward terms: how she got into the sport, what motivates her and what she recommends if you want to get into better shape.

Why does Arida Muru’s story resonate?

Name: Arida Muru
Age: 22 years
Competes in the up to 160 cm category

Arida Muru’s sporting background did not begin in the gym. She has been involved in sport since childhood, specifically rhythmic gymnastics. It provides a solid foundation: body awareness, posture, discipline and the ability to repeat a movement until it looks effortless.

At some point, she felt she wanted to take up something else as well. Since she loved training in the gym, she decided to try bikini fitness and prepare for competitions. The simple truth is that sometimes you discover a new sport because you start to really enjoy a particular workout, rather than through some grand plan.

Her greatest achievement? Arida says all her achievements are significant and important to her, because every competition takes preparation. Still, some moments naturally stand out more vividly than others.

  • European Junior Championships: 1st place, 2017
  • Women’s World Championships: 1st place, 2018
  • World Junior Championships: 2nd place, 2018

How does Arida Muru train and recover?

Before bikini fitness, her other main sport was rhythmic gymnastics, which she practiced for 13 years. That explains a lot. Being stage-ready is about more than muscle or a low body fat percentage. Posture, movement, composure and the ability to present yourself matter too.

What motivates her? Continually improving herself and working toward results. Especially the feeling of seeing hard work pay off. It sounds simple, but when it comes to getting into competition shape, consistency is the hardest part.

For her, relaxing does not mean stepping away from sport completely. Arida says she is lucky because sport is her hobby. There is also room in her life for reading and spending time in nature. That is an important detail. When your whole day revolves around your physique, your mind tires faster than your body.

Her training depends on the phase she is in. Is she preparing in the off-season, or is the competitive season already underway? Her training load changes accordingly. She has 1-2 rest days. On the remaining days, she does one workout, sometimes two: a little cardio in the morning and a gym workout in the evening, or vice versa.

Arida Muru’s nutrition and everyday choices

During the competition season, Arida eats five times a day and creates her own nutrition plans. That does not mean everyone should do the same. Rather, it shows that she knows her body and can adjust her plan according to her condition.

She says she does not follow any fixed dietary principles. You need to monitor how you look in the mirror and adjust your diet accordingly. Frankly, many people find this harder than following a set meal plan, because it takes experience and a calm approach to decision-making.

When it comes to her favorite food, the answer is warm and simple: everything her mother cooks is a favorite. Answers like these bring a human touch to an athlete’s story. Getting into competition shape takes precision, but life does not have to revolve entirely around meal containers and measuring everything to the gram.

For supplements, she has used “226ERS” products for several years. They are actually aimed at endurance athletes, but they suit her very well and help her recover. Arida says the products are pure and natural. She uses “226ERS” protein powder and BCAA.

What does Arida Muru recommend for getting into shape?

When discussing role models, Arida does not single out one particular person. She admires people who are positive, focused, hardworking, determined and consistent. That is a useful idea if you train recreationally, too. Sometimes you do not need to copy someone’s plan; you need to adopt their attitude.

Three recommendations if you want to get into better shape? First, set yourself a clear goal to work toward. Then start making it happen, step by step. Instead of looking for tips and tricks, find a good, knowledgeable coach to help you along the way.

So what actually happens when your goal is clear? Training is no longer haphazard. Nutrition no longer feels like punishment. A rest day no longer feels like laziness. All those small decisions start taking you in the same direction.
