Egle Villik: the trainer who never gives up
Egle Villik puts it plainly: “Never give up!” For her, it is more than a catchy phrase: it is a motto she also uses to encourage people to keep pushing during workouts. Her story is a good reminder that becoming a trainer does not have to begin with walking through the doors of a sports school as a child.
Why Egle Villik’s story resonates with readers
Many people will recognize this starting point. Sport feels unfamiliar, the gym seems a little intimidating, and your first workout is something you would rather have someone take you to by the hand. Egle Villik also started with an ordinary step rather than a grand plan: someone took her to the gym.
She began exercising for health and fitness about 5 years ago. She had also done karate for 2 years in high school, but describes herself back then as a stereotypical blonde who generally knew little about sport. While studying to become a tour operator, she tended to give sport a wide berth.
That is precisely what makes her path into training so believable. This is not the story of someone who knew exactly where she was heading from childhood. It is the story of someone who gave it a try, stuck with it and discovered that working as a trainer really suited her.
How Egle Villik became a trainer
It started at the gym. BodyCombat has said she is grateful to the person who took her there, because by now one thing is clear: being a trainer is right for her. Before making the full transition, she worked as a trainer alongside her office job for over 4 years.
It was not an easy decision. Playtech had a lovely team, and she was sorry to leave. But her heart was calling her towards sport. At the beginning of this year, she committed to working solely as a trainer. As she simply puts it: her favorite hobby and her job became one.
At Avancia sports club, she made a smooth transition from recreational exerciser to spinning instructor. She had been regularly attending classes for a couple of months when the instructor wanted to reduce their workload. That was how Egle found herself leading the class. It is, honestly, a very authentic route into the profession: first you show up, then you start taking responsibility.
Things progressed naturally from there. Egle Villik also became a gym instructor and a group training instructor. She now teaches spinning and BodyCombat and coaches gym buffs at Fittest Tartu sports club, formerly Avancia.
BodyCombat: love at first sight
She happened to see a BodyCombat workout about 3 years ago. It made a powerful impression: it was love at first sight. At the time, she did not even dare to dream that she might one day teach the same class herself.
She has now spent almost a year at the front of the class, cheering clients on, shouting encouragement and pushing them to work until they are out of breath. That sounds tough, but this kind of energy plays a big part in group workouts. People often arrive feeling tired. A trainer’s job is to give you a reason to keep pushing for one more track, one more set, one more minute.
What matters to Egle Villik in training
Here is a simple truth: training is about more than shaping your body. Egle Villik also emphasizes mood. Her aim is for everyone to leave each workout feeling happier and satisfied. That is a very practical measure of success. When a workout makes your day better, it is much easier to come back.
She believes sport helps you shape your body and enjoy yourself. That idea applies whether you are a beginner or an experienced exerciser. You do not have to start with a big goal or a strict plan. Sometimes, simply showing up and taking part in your first proper class is enough.
Egle sees difficulties as challenges. She finds it hard to turn down new challenges and says there is still plenty to achieve in life. In her view, versatility, a sense of humor and critical thinking are what make a person successful. That is an important combination in a trainer: you need to know how to inspire people, but also how to recognize what needs improvement.
When time and demand allow, she also pursues her other hobby: makeup artistry. Her own words sum it up well: everything about a person should be beautiful. And what could be better than combining several hobbies with work?
A practical message: do not be afraid to get active
What actually happens when you try something new? Sometimes, nothing particularly remarkable. But sometimes, your entire direction changes. BodyCombat started with recreational exercise, moved into spinning, then gym training and BodyCombat. It did not happen in one day, but step by step.
Her message is clear: do not be afraid to pursue the things you truly enjoy. Life is short, and it does not have to be a string of hardships. If training interests you, it is worth trying. If the first class does not suit you, that does not mean sport is not for you. Perhaps it simply was not the right class, the right pace or the right trainer.
Egle also has a burning desire to do more dancing. She has achieved almost all her goals so far and asks herself: how far away can the next one be? That attitude is infectious. It does not feel pushy; it simply makes you ask yourself what you have been putting off for too long.
