The harsh truth about why most people don’t progress

Do you know why you’re not getting the progress you hoped for?

Does this sound familiar: it’s as if you’re sitting in your car going nowhere, the wheels spinning under you, unable to move in any direction?

Funny how your numbers and your level are exactly the same as they were 6-12 months ago, isn’t it?

To a large extent, the reason is what you are doing right now.

Right here, right now, reading this website – that is exactly why you’re not getting anywhere.

Why and how?

Because this week alone you’ve already visited at least 10-12 different training websites, each insisting that theirs has the best and most correct training information.

You’ve probably felt for a long time that there is so much information out there that you no longer know what or whom to believe.

You’re no longer sure about anything: whether to build your training plans around the sunrise, Einstein’s theory of relativity, the seasons, 5×5 or Prilepin’s chart instead. You’re also no longer sure whether the best angle for incline pressing is 27.6 or 31.4 degrees.

STOP, THAT’S ENOUGH!

Stop reading.

In fact, I want you to never come back to this website again. Come back only if it’s the only training website you visit for information, or one of the very few.

I’m not saying this because I don’t appreciate your support. Believe me, I’m very grateful to you for visiting my site, but I also want to help you. If half a million people visit my website every month and that visit doesn’t help anyone move toward their goals, it’s pointless.

Simply put, if you hop from site to site reading different, often completely contradictory advice, it won’t get you anywhere in the end. You can be sure that if you start down that road, you won’t get far.

Six million training websites to read: pick just one to follow

Choose one coach, specialist or mentor whom you listen to and follow. One expert who has proven their theory in practice through results. Listen to them and do exactly what they say. Don’t question, don’t doubt, and don’t be suspicious of their views and approach. Don’t wear yourself out with other people’s opinions. Just do what they tell you or prescribe, for at least six months straight. Then we’ll talk.

If you’re a fan or reader of a particular website, then believe what it recommends and don’t waste time gathering information from another 23 websites. Trust me, you’ll reach your goals much faster that way. If you believe in DeFranco’s theories, please follow them; trust Wendler’s ideas and practice, or worship at Westside instead, why not. These are great theories, coaches and schools of thought, and none of them is feeding you lies.

But don’t go asking them whether what I recommended to you was right, and don’t come to me to check whether what they recommended to you is right. Once that scenario kicks in, you’re doomed to fail and set up for no results. People who do this stay the same size all the time and don’t make much progress in their strength numbers either. In fact, it honestly annoys me when people approach me with requests like that. Those who hesitate and doubt about everything should direct their energy somewhere else entirely, because training will be the last place they find success.

Busy hands are happy, successful hands.

Do you know who succeeds in gym training?

People who live life at a fast pace.

The ones who get results are those who have no time, patience or desire to spend all day digging through every kind of training information on the internet. They have one approach they believe in, and they commit to it seriously, without doubts and with hard work.

Everyone who has trained for twenty years following my programs, Cosgrove’s or another expert’s has achieved success and results, because the people who ordered those programs have been consistent and followed our instructions without any questions or deviations. I think most of the clients I’ve trained since 1994 haven’t read much about training at all. They do what I recommend and tell them, simply because they have no time to doubt – they live life at a fast pace. They don’t rack their brains online all day over the best split or the best way to progress.

Another interesting thing is that the clients who make good money in their profession are also the ones who get the best results training on my programs. That’s probably down to two reasons. First, someone who knows how to make money is probably an ambitious person in general. Second, these people are mostly so busy that they have no time to hang around on Facebook or run frenzied training blogs. It comes down to this: they hand me a check, I hand them a program they commit to with real results, and in the end both sides are happy.

Don’t become obsessive

To get the results you dream of, you need to make training one part of your life, not turn training into your whole life. There is more to life than training, and you should have other hobbies and interests too. You can’t obsess over your training around the clock, 24/7, or you’ll simply end up working against your own goals and dreams. Eat when you feel you need energy, go to bed at a reasonable time in the evening, train hard 3-4 times a week in the gym, and combine it with active recovery. And that’s it. It really is that simple.

Make these things a routine part of your life and you won’t have to rack your brain over it every day. You have other things to focus on, such as your kids, your personal life, hobbies, work and the future. Life isn’t only about how to structure your training even better, how to progress even faster, and so on. Try not to spend more than a couple of hours a day on these thoughts.
