Status Club: the club with a sea view at Rocca

Status Club was a club on the seashore in Rocca al Mare that brought sport, relaxation and personal service together under one roof. Here is an overview of what made the place special: 1700 m² of space, a pool, a gym, squash, group training and a strong lineup of trainers.

Why did Status Club stand out back then?

The seaside location at Rocca al Mare was not just a nice extra. The club built its whole feel around it: the light, the view of the sea and the calmer atmosphere of a private club. This was not a place you popped into just for a quick run on the treadmill. The idea was broader: come, move, rest and socialize.

The club’s philosophy sounded simple: every client is a work of art. Behind it was the understanding that beauty ideals change, but the wish to feel good stays. Status Club stressed that you don’t have to fit any particular measurements, age or shape to get started. Come as you are and move toward feeling better.

The same thinking extended to the staff. With personal service, you can’t leave everything to machines. A trainer’s eye, an encouraging word and advice given at the right moment count for a lot, especially when someone is still finding their rhythm.

Status Club and its training options

It was one of the first private clubs in Estonia open to members only. The building stretched across two floors on the seaward side and offered a wide range of activities for sport and relaxation. The club was described as a sports club meeting international standards for service, safety and interior design.

Members had a wide range of services at their disposal:

  • gym, boxing corner, cardio theater
  • 2 squash courts
  • aerobics hall, group training including Yoga, Pilates, BodyPump and others
  • spinning studio
  • pool, including aqua aerobics classes
  • whirlpool bath
  • solarium
  • massage
  • body treatments
  • play room, babysitter
  • children’s training program (on weekends)
  • café and club lounge
  • free parking

Every club member received a magnetic card that gave access to the club and its services according to their membership package. You could become a member from the age of 18, or a junior member at 14-17. You could choose between different packages or visit the club for a one-off fee. All packages included unlimited use of the sports services.

What could you do inside the club?

The heart of Status Club was a stylishly designed pool measuring 21 x 7 m. Beside it you could relax on a lounger or in the whirlpool bath and enjoy the view of the sea. Aqua aerobics classes were held in the pool as well. Both the women’s and the men’s sides had a steam room, or aroma sauna, scented with eucalyptus, as well as a sauna.

The gym was equipped with TechnoGym strength machines, Life Fitness and Matrix exercise bikes, treadmills, steppers, cross-trainers and Concept II rowing ergometers. In total, the gym had more than 60 different training stations. The cardio theater let you watch your favorite TV channel while you trained.

You could also practice in the boxing corner. For your workout, you could borrow a Polar heart rate monitor to keep track of your heart and adjust your training load accordingly. The trainers on the gym floor were happy to answer questions about training. A simple truth: for a beginner, this is often worth more than yet another complicated plan.

The aerobics hall held 20 people. Classes there included Body, BoxMix, Yoga, LatinoDance, Stretching and more. There were suitable sessions for both women and men, and the instructors were specialists in their fields. Energetic spinning added variety to other training: on indoor bikes, led by a trainer and set to music.

The two squash courts met the US standard and were Respatex courts. Masseurs and beauticians looked after health and appearance as well. A tan for body and face was available in an air-conditioned solarium. A training load test and a computer-generated personal training program helped members train according to their own numbers and abilities.

Status Club trainers and atmosphere

It was the people who gave the club its face. The head coach of the gym was TARMO TIITS. On the aerobics side were KAJA TUISK, MARGIT ADAMSON, KATRIN VÄLI, RIINA SUHOTSKAJA, EVA OTTAS, RAINER REBANE and others. Spinning was led by, among others, EVALD PÄRNI. In the gym there was FRED ANTSON, in BodyPump ARNOLD TOKKO, in yoga LY KÜTT, JAVIEER SINGH and AILI JÕELEHT. In addition, INES KARU taught belly dance, BRITT TIMUSK Pilates, KIRSTI TILL swimming and ZORAN GROJIC squash.

This list shows that the club was more than just a collection of rooms. It set out to offer a complete experience: training, coaching, relaxation and good company. Members had a clubroom, fresh newspapers and magazines, music, a café, light meals and a babysitting service at their disposal.

Here you can live a healthy lifestyle, feel good and enjoy life!
