What is circuit training, and why is it ideal for summer?

Circuit training involves performing exercises in sequence with short breaks or no rest between them. One circuit usually consists of five to ten exercises that work different muscle groups. You complete two to four circuits, taking a short break between each. It is an effective way to build strength, endurance and overall fitness. It is particularly suitable if you are short on time but want quick, tangible results.

OmniGym outdoor gyms provide an excellent setting for this, with a range of machines that allow you to train practically every muscle group. Even basic outdoor workout areas always have pull-up bars, dip bars, ab benches and climbing ladders, allowing you to enjoy varied bodyweight training. Training outdoors also gives you the added benefit of fresh air, daylight and sunshine, which in turn boosts vitamin D levels and improves your mood.

Circuit training: a sample circuit

  • Squats
  • Pull-ups
  • Push-ups
  • Bench jumps
  • Dips
  • Plank with shoulder taps
  • Ab exercises on a bench
  • Burpees

⏱ Perform each exercise for 30 seconds, resting for 15–30 seconds between exercises and 1 minute between circuits. Three circuits are enough to give you a substantial training load. Remember to do a short warm-up before your workout!
