OG GYM opened its doors in Pärnu four years ago and gradually became a place where gym enthusiasts drop in even at three in the morning. This is the story of how two enthusiasts built a welcoming 24/7 local gym that carries on Ain Kimberi’s legacy and brings quality old-school machines back to the heart of the city.
How OG GYM got started in Pärnu
It began with a chance meeting. Two men from completely different backgrounds crossed paths at the legendary Ain Kimber gym in Pärnu Sports Hall. Both saw the same opportunity: the city had room for strength training that didn’t treat people like products on an assembly line.
The idea was simple: let’s build a gym we would want to train in ourselves. We started with the impressive collection of machines from Kimber’s days and kept the setup simple and sturdy. Then we added something Pärnu didn’t have — doors open around the clock.
What you’ll find at OG GYM
The gym now offers nearly 70 different machines or training options. The free weights section is well equipped: a range of dumbbells up to 60 kg, competition benches, power racks and quality weightlifting and bench press barbells that meet the relevant standards.
There are plenty of cable and plate-loaded machines, including some rarely found in Pärnu — a belt squat, a pendulum squat and a reverse hyperextension machine. There’s a dedicated area for core and abdominal training, with a punching bag waiting in the corner. Ten machines cover cardio: rowing ergometers, elliptical trainers, exercise bikes and a treadmill.
To be honest, reading a list doesn’t give you the full picture. The easiest way to find out is to drop in and try the equipment yourself.
OG GYM is open 24/7 with self-service access
Buying a pass and entering the gym is queue-free, thanks to smart locks. If you have a question, we’re often there ourselves or just a quick phone call away. Drinks are available from the fridge, and you can enjoy some steam in the sauna after your workout.
That combination — the feel of a local club and the freedom to come whenever your schedule allows — has attracted both advanced gym-goers and complete beginners. If you work shifts and finish at midnight, you can still get your workout in. If you’re an early riser, you can come before heading to the office.
Trainers, massage and community at OG GYM
If you want to take your training a step further, we work with a selection of trainers. You can get to know them on our trainers page. Often, a fresh pair of eyes can offer the very tip you’ve spent years looking for.
We’re fortunate to have Katrin Kimber, a specialist in her field who offers sports massage, as our neighbor. Her strong, skilled hands give your muscles some welcome care, especially after tougher weeks of training — you’ll find details on our sports massage page.
A sense of community doesn’t happen by itself. We help organize events and support Pärnu’s athletes, and we’ve celebrated birthdays with games and get-togethers. Since we train at the gym every day ourselves, you can approach us directly — with a concern, an idea or simply a hello.
There’s one thing we want to say explicitly: we’re deeply grateful to the Kimber family, especially for Ain Kimber’s mentorship and knowledge. Without that, OG GYM wouldn’t be what it is today.
